Xtreme Media is led by Justin Dawson. Justin has worked with Irish national radio stations Today FM and Newstalk and with internet radio station Live Ireland in roles of researching, reporting, presenting and production.Born and raised in Dublin, Justin Dawson has always been interested in the power of the microphone and the electromagnetic airwaves. His father is a semi-retired electrician for the past 40 years. Described by friends and family as a complete radio anorak and internet geek, Justin at the tender age of 14 researched his new found hobby in radio. Influenced by Dublin Pirate Radio Stations “Pulse 103” and “Sunset FM”  the young teenager constantly studied diagrams of transmitters and components and his interest grew in media by listening and reading about activities of the "Super Pirates" of the 80's in Ireland and “Free Radio Berkley from the United States”

Justin’s career in radio began back in 1999, at only 15 years of age with the teenager owning and operating his own pirate radio station. Showing his technical abilities, Justin built his first transmitter from diagrams he downloaded from the internet. The transmitter was cleverly disguised inside an alarm box. More of a hobby broadcast at a young age, Xtreme 94.2FM began broadcasting from a garden shed with programming beginning each day from 4pm or the after school hours!

Two years later - Justin, under the alias DJ Rob Ross to hide his identity, had improved the standard of the broadcast to that of a semi professional station.  From a new frequency Xtreme 101 broadcast across South Dublin. Eventually this illegal activity was put to a halt by the ODTR (now known as Comreg, The Communications Regulator). By now his interest in radio had exceeded a hobby, it was a career he was very passionate about.

Four months later absence from radio, Justin was awarded a new position in Dublin City Anna Livia FM producing and presenting a chart music show called The Music Box. The show which broadcast on Saturday afternoons was listened to by a large youth audience. With such interest in this teenage boy Justin was interviewed by several local newspapers. In 2001 new management cancelled the show to make room for new programme changes within the station.

Justin progressed in his career and ambitions and set up his own media company known as Xtreme Promotions Ireland in 2000 providing DJ services to weddings and birthday parties. In 2002, after completing his Leaving Certificate, he began studying the Higher National Diploma in Radio in Ballyfermot College of Further Education. During those two years, he achieved great status of Deputy Marketing Manager for a temporary licensed CHR station called Nu.Wave Radio 97.3 FM and Technical Manager for an Irish Internet Radio Station called Emerald Radio.

Within his second day of college, he was employed as a researcher on the Arts Show with Newstalk 106-108FM. Justin worked for over three and a half years with the national talk radio station reporting at the Witness Festival during the summer of 2002, meeting and interviewing several bands. He attended the press conference of the film "Veronica Guerin" starring Kate Blanchett and was a sound engineer on several shows with the station. Now 21 years of age, Justin continued his college education in Ballyfermot College and graduated with a 2:1 BA honours degree in Media Production and Management. During this year he re branded his company and registered the name Xtreme Media.

During his one year degree, Scouting Radio, the world's first internet radio station for the Scouting Movement was established. This internet radio operation was first designed as a college project for the cultural artifact aspect of Justin's degree but within hours gained a massive response that he was not expecting. Justin was a finalist of over 800 participants in the Oxygen.ie Student Media Awards 2005 with Scouting Radio. His cultural artifact was accredited by all the lecturers in BCFE for its standard and quality.

Scouting Radio is now a professional 24 hour internet radio broadcasting operation with studios based across the globe in Ireland, England and USA. The station has over 180,000 global listeners.  It is the World's First Internet Radio Station for the Scouting Movement with 30 million active members. On the morning of the Scouting Sunrise, 1st August 2008, we hit personal record figures with a quarter of a million listeners. It has recently become an award winning internet station.

Scouting Radio's success has grown and grown, in 2007 the station was a finalist in the Digital Media Awards. Digital Media Intelligence (DMI) launched the first ever Digital Media Awards in Dublin in January 2003. The awards have now received endorsement from the European Digital Media Association (EDiMA) and the American Digital Media Association (DiMA), which makes the 2005 Digital Media Awards a global competition. In 2008 Justin Dawson won his first media award for Web Designer of the Year in the Oxygen Student Media Awards.

Justin believes strongly in the growth of new media and the death of analogue radio and he strives to make Xtreme Media and the company’s products and services up to date with the latest trends and innovations.
